The Scott Polar Research Institute is delighted to invite you to take part in the Scott Centenary Sledge Pull Challenge in Plymouth, to honour the achievements of Scott (a son of Plymouth) and his colleagues 100 years ago, and to celebrate the valuable ongoing work of the Institute founded in his name.

Choose your team - choose your distance
1 mile, 2 miles, 5 miles, 'the last 11' miles

                                                                                We welcome all ages
Schools, individuals, companies, pub teams, sports clubs and many others are invited to take on a sledge pull challenge at any distance from 2 to 11 miles, or for juniors as little as 0.5 miles.  You can pull as an individual, in a team or in a team relay.  Ideally we want teams of five to honour Scott's Polar party. The route is a circuit of Jesus Green and Midsummer Common.

You are invited to fundraise. You will have the option to give a percentage (10-20%) to the polar education work of the Scott Polar Research Institute. You will be able to channel the remainder that you earn to charities or organisations you choose.
We will also be fundraising to create Expedition Scholarships for at least one deserving Cambridgeshire student in 2012. You will be able to choose how you divide the funds you raise.

                                                                                Company teams most welcome
Spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon doing some Charity or CSR work for your company, and take the chance to logo up one of our sledges for a photo opportunity on this unique occasion.

Alternatively you can take part simply for the fun of it !

Do I need to be fit or strong ?
Not especially. The sledges are lightweight, easy to pull, and you can choose to go at your own pace, whether it be a walk, a jog or a run. With a minimum distance of 2 miles, or half a mile on the junior course this is truly for anyone.

                                                                                Fun and Competition
Groups all over the UK are participating in other local versions of this event, from far North Scotland to the SW, SE, and Wales. Join them, and help us put the Scott Centenary to good purpose and to benefit charities, young people and polar exploration. See some of the stories here.

Fundraising - choose your charity !
We suggest that you try to raise at least £11 per mile to be divided between the nominated charities. Funds can be gathered by you or online by setting up a dedicated Bmycharity donation page. This is simply done by following the instructions from the link on this page. Either you or the Sledge Pull team can pass on the donations to your charities.
