University of St Andrews Expedition Society
On the 2nd and 3rd February 2012 the University of St Andrews Expedition Society (Expand – www.expandsoc.com) will follow in the footsteps of Scott by doing a ski-sledge pull expedition over the Lairig Ghru in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, Scotland. The expedition will be led by Edward Morgan, a previous YE and TL with BSES Expeditions and Theo Weiss who has been to Svalbard twice with BSES.
The ExpAnd fundraising page is: http://www.bmycharity.com/StAndrewsUniSledgePull The challenge will take two days. We will start at NO 062 898 (near Braemar), ski through Glen Dee, stay overnight at Corrour Bothy (NN 981 957), and then on day two we will cross the Lairig Ghru pass and then descend into Aviemore. We will be fundraising to create an Expedition Scholarship Fund for young people from Fife, and it is our aim to fund and enable at least one person, if not more, from Fife to take part in an Expedition run by the British Schools Exploring Society. We will also raise funds for the Polar education work of the Scott Polar Research Institute and for activities of the University of St Andrews Expedition Society. |
