The original sledges
Scott's expedition attempted to use a combination of ponies, dogs, mechanical tractors and manhauling sledges to move themselves and their equipment around. Ultimately manhauling sledges was the most used method, and this is the most iconic image of all polar journeys and exploration over the last 100 years.
We are now creating two replica sledges that will lead the sledge convoys up and down the country. It will be a significant honour to pull the lead sledge for a section of the journey. Will it be you? It would look pretty good on your CV. We suggest that each school decides...perhaps it will be those who have fund raised most successfully. |
The land sledges
The photographs on the site are of our prototype sledges.
We have designed these to be robust and to have a number of other expedition and sports field related uses. The blue plastic pulk is ready made for snow based expeditions and simply lifts out of the metal frame. The metal frame steers from a front axle and runs on small pneumatic tyres. The triangular pyramid is for sponsors logos. You, your team and your school will be able to sell the space on some of your sledges to local and regional sponsors. The rest of the space will be reserved for nationwide sponsors. |
