The Teamwork Challenge - what is it ?
The challenge is a team activity in which schools and youth groups are invited to complete several miles of sledge pulling, as a team activity. This can be in three ways; 1. On school grounds when you choose, 2. As part of one of our regional events, 3. As part of a youth nationwide relay from John O'Groats to Land's end in September 2012. Our principal aim is to use the Scott Centenary to raise funds for adventure for young people all over the UK. We want to create opportunities that echo the spirit and virtues of Scott and his team. This could be a school expedition, a youth group training session, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, a Duke of Edinburgh trip, or even group kit. If the sledge pull helps make it happen, then we will have achieved our purpose. We will also raise funds for other charities chosen by the participants, and for the Polar education and outreach work of the Scott Polar Research Institute. It is designed to be a fun, educational, skills development and fundraising activity. It can take place in a day, or you can make it last over a term, or even a full year. You can involve a few, or you can involve the whole school. You can involve all ages. The sledge pull activity is not expensive. It can be easily staffed and managed. It can easily be a student led project, and is designed to offer an opportunity to develop and practice teamworking and project management skills.
